Connaught Rangers. A Kashmir carved hardwood box, the lid profusely carved in high relief with the badge of the Connaught Rangers flanked by two dragons, the interior carved with the family crest of the Moutray family, paper label to the underside "No 711 Made by - Jubbar Khan and Son. - State wood Carvers and - Papier Mache Makers - 3rd Bridge - Srinagar Kashmir" 13" x 7½" x 4" (33 x 19 x 10cm).
Anketell Gerald Moutray (1882-1952) joined the Connaught Rangers from the 4th Battalion Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers in 1905. He rose to the rank of Major but also served as acting Lt. Colonel. His significant collection of medals and militaria was sold at auction over three days by Town and Country Estates in May 1954.
