Medal of Irish physician Henry Quin (1717–91) by William Mossop (1751–1805), white metal medal, 61mm, portrait bust HENRICUS QUIN M.D., in gilt mounted black lacquer frame, 3½" x 3¼" (8 x 9.5cm). Henry Quin promoted the development of modern medical teaching in Ireland. Registrar of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland (1755–6), Quin was elected president of the college six times from 1758 to 1781. He is remembered in a comic poem ‘He teaches youth the cure, the remedies / And various causes for all maladies; / The speculative theoretic rule / And the best practice, in the physic school’.
