Michael Davitt, signed autograph letter 1893 (Feb. 12) on Arundel Hotel, London notepaper, refusing an invitation to speak in support of the anti-Parnellite Irish National Federation candidate in the 1893 Mid-Tipperary by-election, citing a "severe attack of bronchitis... Anyhow your man is sure to win." Only one candidate was nominated, James Francis Hogan of the Irish National Federation, who was elected unopposed.
